NOVO MESTO, Slovenia, June 12, 2007 (AFP) - Renault's Slovenian unit Revoz said Tuesday that it was set for the commercial launch of a new city car, the Twingo II, in the markets of France, Italy and Slovenia.

"Everything is okay for the start," Revoz' director Marcel Brouiller told AFP during a presentation of the new car in Novo Mesto, about 70 kilometres (45 miles) east of the capital Ljubljana.

"We have reached the quality target and we have the (production) volume we expected for the commercial launch," Brouiller said, adding that 15,000 of the new Twingo models had already been produced.

The car will be the first Renault model to be built exclusively in the the Slovenian factory, which will simultaneously continue to churn out the slightly bigger Clio II model.

Renault invested 400 million euros (530 million dollars) in the Slovenian plant to expand and modernize its capacity for the production of the new model.

In May, Revoz hired an additional 700 workers to run a night-shift and the government is studying the possibility of simplifying work permits for foreign workers in the event of a domestic labour shortage.

The Slovenian government also provided ten percent of the total investment in hopes that the expanded factory would create new jobs and boost development in the Novo Mesto region.

"Besides the new jobs that have been created in the factory, we estimate the investment has produced an additional 500 jobs among Renault suppliers in Slovenia," Prime Minister Janez Jansa said after visiting the Novo Mesto plant.

Revoz has been Slovenia's largest exporter since 1993 and currently accounts for eight percent of the tiny former Yugoslav's republic exports.
