PARIS, Oct 13, 2006 (AFP) - Five French railway unions confirmed Thursday their members would hold a 24-hour strike on November 8 to push for better job security and pay.

The unions said the stoppage — which was likely to cause transport disruption for commuters and tourists — was organised because France's state rail company SNCF was refusing to meet their demands despite negotiations.
