Putin considers Lagarde's IMF candidacy 'quite acceptable'
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin considers French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde's candidacy to head the International Monetary Fund 'quite acceptable', RIA Novosti news agency reported Friday.
"It is quite acceptable," Putin told journalists at his official residence in the Moscow region. "France's candidature is, without doubt, very strong."
Putin also called Kazakhstan's candidature Grigory Marchenko a "good specialist."
Last week, Russia and many former Soviet states announced their support of Kazakhstan Central Bank head Marchenko for the post, vacated by Frenchman Dominique Strauss-Kahn who is fighting sex assault charges in New York.
