Portly Depardieu sheds the pounds after water-only diet
Hefty French actor Gerard Depardieu said Tuesday he had shed 20 kilogrammes (44 pounds) in weight after a crash diet during which he said he ate nothing for 10 days.
"I didn't eat anything for 10 days. I just drank water and I lost 20 kilos," he told journalists as he presented a new sparkling wine from his vineyards. The actor had reportedly weighed some 150 kilos.
"One should not treat one's body like a dustbin," he added.
The French actor, 62, famed for his roles in "Cyrano de Bergerac" and "The Man in the Iron Mask," among others, was in Berlin for the premiere of his new film "Small World," set to be released in Germany on December 16.
Depardieu, one of the world's most popular French film stars, hit the headlines in September amid a public bust-up with compatriot Juliette Binoche who he said was an actress who had "absolutely nothing."
Binoche said she was baffled by the outburst.
