Polanski extradition impossible from Poland: prosecutor

Fugitive film director Roman Polanski would be safe in Poland as it would reject any US extradition request for the French-Polish dual citizen on child sex charges, Polish justice officials said.

"The extradition of Roman Polanski to another country is impossible," as the allegations stem from 1977 and therefore exceed Poland's statute of limitations in such cases, Poland's Prosecutor General explains in an official website statement.

The United States said Monday it was "disappointed" by a Swiss decision to free Polanski and vowed to keep seeking "justice" against the director wanted on underage sex charges.

The Oscar-winner has been a fugitive from US justice for decades since he fled before sentencing after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl after plying her with drugs and champagne in the Hollywood home of actor Jack Nicholson in 1977.
