PARIS, Sept 27 (AFP) - French auto maker Peugeot has recalled some 200,000 cars -- the mid-sized 307 model - on a preventive basis due to a string of potential problems, a company spokesman said Monday.

The first of three problems affects the front suspension of some 140,000 Peugeot 307s, 50,000 of which are in France, that were produced between March 15, 2003 and the end of May 2004.

The second recall of some 1,800 Peugeot 307 Breaks is due to a problem with the installation of the seat belts. Those cars were produced in June this year.

The company also recalled some 65,000 307s (9,000 of them in France) equipped with a 1.4-litre HDI diesel engine, produced between May 2001 and September 2003, due to a problem with its pollution control system.

Peugeot said it had sent registered letters to owners of the various models, inviting them to bring their vehicles to their local car dealership for service.
