PARIS (AFP) - A young man was shot dead and another badly injured in a shoot-out in the early hours Friday between customers at a restaurant just off the Champs-Elysees avenue in Paris, an official said.

An argument broke out at the Maison de l'Aubrac restaurant at around 3:00 am, between two parties who had apparently been drinking late into the night, according to an official close to the investigation.

Asked to step outside by the manager, one of the customers pulled out a gun, killing a 27-year-old man and shooting a 25-year-old in the shoulder, before fleeing the scene. The victim had a criminal record.

Police are investigating the shooting, with an autopsy to be carried out later Friday.
