Oliver Stone heads trio of film giants at Cannes
A trio of film-making giants wowed the crowds at Cannes on Friday: Martin Scorsese and George Lucas mounted the red carpet ahead of Oliver Stone for the premiere of his "Wall Street" sequel.
Lucas, creator of the "Star Wars" movie series, and Scorsese, whose latest film "Shutter Island" hit cinema screens this year, do not have films at the festival, but Stone's financial crisis movie made a splash here on Friday.
Speaking in French, Stone told the television cameras on the red carpet he had brought his blockbuster to Cannes because the festival was "the best market in the world".
Other stars sweeping up the steps to the waterfront festival hall included French actress Juliette Binoche, festival jury member Kate Beckinsale and her fellow Briton Carey Mulligan, a Hollywood newcomer starring in Stone's movie.
