AIX-EN-PROVENCE, France, Dec 7 (AFP) - A Norwegian film, "United We Stand", carried off the top prize of a week-long short-film festival in the southern French city of Aix-en-Provence that came to a close on the weekend, organisers said.

The nine-minute work, by US-trained Norwegian director Hans Petter Moland, beat off 56 contenders for the festival's Grand Prize with its vignette about eight middle-aged people finding a young woman stuck in a swamp.

The runner-up jury prize went to a short by Ukrainian director Stepan Koval called "The Tram No. 9 Goes".
