Noriega denounces 'imaginary banking scheme' at French trial

Panama's ex-dictator Manuel Noriega on Tuesday dismissed money-laundering charges against him as an "imaginary banking scheme", on the second day of his trial in France.

"I say with much humility and respect that this is an imaginary banking scheme," Noriega told the court in Spanish through his interpreter.

The 76-year-old general strongly denied the charges that he laundered money from Colombian drug cartels in French banks and said that on the contrary, he had fought narco-traffickers while in power in Panama in the 1980s.
