'No sign of life' from French hostage in Mali: ministry
There is "no sign of life" from a French hostage held in Mali by an Al-Qaeda-linked gang targetted by a recent France-backed Mauritanian raid, a French defence ministry source said Saturday.
Twenty to thirty French soldiers were involved in the Mauritanian raid on Thursday, said the source, adding that no other operations were underway to free hostage Michel Germaneau, 78.
Earlier Saturday, a military source in Nouakchott said Mauritanian troops were continuing their operation inside Malian territory against members of an Al-Qaeda affiliated group.
The latest operation was now over, the French source added.
