No ransom was paid for the release of 19 hostages, including American, French, Indonesian and Canadian nationals, freed in Nigeria, a military official said Thursday.

"Not a dime was paid for the release of these gentlemen," Major General Charles Omoregie told journalists. "It was a sustained raid. We don't go into negotiations."
