Nineteen hurt as French rally car leaves track

RENNES, France, May 22 (AFP) - Nineteen people were hurt, four seriously, when a car taking part in a rally left the road and ploughed into a group of spectators.

RENNES, France, May 22 (AFP) - Nineteen people were hurt, four seriously, when a car taking part in a rally left the road and ploughed into a group of spectators.

The accident happened at Couffe, near Ancennis, during the Loire Atlantique Rally.

Seven children and one woman were amongst the injured.

"There was a problem with the brakes," said driver Thierry Landais. "The pedal became very soft."
