PARIS, Oct 24 (AFP) - French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy and a journalist have launched legal action against Agence France-Presse over a report of a press article which referred to a relationship between them and named the journalist, AFP management said Monday.

The minister and the journalist, with the daily Figaro, have also taken legal action against the company Presse Alliance, publisher of the daily France-Soir newspaper, the original source of the information.

They have also launched proceedings against the journalist who wrote the article, which appeared on October 11 and revealed the identity of Sarkozy's new companion.

Sarkozy and his companion charge that the newspaper and AFP deliberately violated their private life.

The plaintiffs are seeking that Presse Alliance, the journalist of France-Soir and AFP be jointly ordered to pay one euro to Sarkozy and 100,000 euros (120,000 dollars) to the Figaro journalist who, not being a "public figure", had been harmed much more by the article.

No date has yet been set for the hearing.
