PARIS, May 17, 2007 (AFP) - President Nicolas Sarkozy and Prime Minister Francois Fillon on Thursday kicked off their double act at the helm of the French state by pulling on shorts and T-shirts and heading off for a jog.

Fillon, an hour after being appointed prime minister on Thursday, turned up in sports clothes at the Elysee presidential palace.

A short time later he and Sarkozy were driven out of the back gate of the palace in jogging gear to the Bois de Boulogne, a wooded park on the western rim of the capital, with tracksuit-wearing bodyguards in tow.

Fillon, 53, and Sarkozy, 52 -- kitted out in black shorts and grey long-sleeved t-shirt, mobile phone clutched in one hand -- ran for an hour before the president returned to work, jogging up the steps of the Elysee.

The president and prime minister were regular running partners throughout the election campaign that ended on May 6 with the defeat of the Socialist Segelone Royal.
