Mother sole survivor in south of France campsite blaze
Two girls aged four and nine as well as their mother's partner died overnight when their mobile home caught fire on a campsite near France's Cote d'Azur, officials said Monday.
The girls' mother, 35, raised the alarm at the campsite at Cannet-des-Maures before being evacuated to a nearby military hospital with severe burns to the face and hands, a source close to the investigation told AFP.
It was not immediately clear whether the man, also 35, was the girls' father. The family was on holiday from Marseille.
Dozens of other holidaymakers were evacuated during the blaze and psychologists called in to help traumatised campers.
The mayor of Cannet-des-Maures, which lies between Nice and Marseille near France's Mediterranean coast, Jean-Luc Longour said that a preliminary investigation suggested the cause of the fire was accidental.
