POITIERS, France, Dec 10, 2006 (AFP) - Tall 18-year-old brunette Miss Picardie, Rachel Legrain-Trapani, was elected Miss France 2007 by television viewers and a jury headed by singer Michel Sardou at the Futuroscope theme park here late Saturday.

The first-year arts student, 1.8 metres (5' 11") tall with long chestnut hair, was chosen from among 37 beauty queens and received her crown from the reigning Miss France and Miss Europe 2006, Alexandra Rosenfeld.

"I can't believe it," Rachel said after her victory. "It's a dream come true, a huge pleasure. I waited till I was 18, the necessary age, to take part and I won."

The new Miss France, who says she reads lots of philosophy books, will now "take full advantage of this year and put my studies on hold."
