Medic killings in Afghanistan 'cowardly and cruel': France
The murder of eight foreign medical aid workers in northern Afghanistan was a "cowardly and cruel" act, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said Saturday.
"This particularly cowardly and cruel act shows a deep disregard for human life," Kouchner, himself a former doctor and aid worker, said in a statement.
The bullet-riddled bodies of five US men and three women, an American, a Briton and a German, as well as two Afghans, were found in the northeastern province of Badakhshan on Friday, according to a provincial police chief.
Kouchner called for those responsible for their killing to be "identified, arrested and handed over to justice."
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it killed the foreigners for being "Christian missionaries".
