Activity at the main airport in Paris was "back to normal" on Thursday morning after a cloud of volcanic ash over Europe paralysed air traffic for days, an airport official said.

At Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, most flights were displayed as on time as queues formed at check-out counters

The airport official said that there were only "a few disruptions on flights bound for England", but was unable to say why.

Aviation authorities declared French airspace "totally open again" on Wednesday but warned that a return to normal could take two or three days on regional flights.
