PARIS, Dec 7 (AFP) - US actress Uma Thurman will follow in the footsteps of pop singer Jennifer Lopez as the new face of France's luxury leather goods maker Louis Vuitton, the company said Tuesday.

The first advert due to go out throughout the world in February 2005 will show the "Pulp Fiction" and "Kill Bill" star carrying the brand's new Manhattan bag.

"The idea was to present this ultra-feminine woman and to show her in a rough and bare industrial environment, to dress her in a sophisticated way, opposite to the unexpected decor made of cement and concrete," Marc Jacobs, artistic director of Louis Vuitton said in the statement.

After Lopez, the luxury leather goods maker featured six top models against a backdrop of the desert for its advertising campaign.

And this winter saw young actresses Chloe Sevigny, Christina Ricci, Scarlet Johansson and Diane Kruger help market the line.

Thurman follows a long line of famous actresses to have recently stepped into the promotion of perfumes or ready-to-wear, including Nicole Kidman for Chanel, Charlize Theron for Dior and Charlotte Gainsbourg for Gerard Darel.
