Libyan rebels will now be able to supply the besieged city of Misrata by sea, French Defence Minister Gerard Longuet said Wednesday.

"We are going to ensure that... aid comes from (the rebel stronghold) Benghazi and that at no moment (Libyan leader Moamer) Kadhafi's military forces will be able to stop this," he told France Inter radio.

Libyan rebels have hit out at the NATO-led air mission, saying that it was failing in its UN mandate to protect civilians in Misrata.
