PARIS, March 11 (AFP) - The founding director of France's left-leaning newspaper Liberation travelled to Baghdad on Friday to contribute to efforts to find kidnapped reporter Florence Aubenas, the paper reported on its web site.

Liberation said founder Serge July would use the working visit to the Iraqi capital, "organised in liaison with the French embassy", to explain through the Iraqi media the growing Europe-wide campaign for Aubenas's release.

Aubenas, a senior correspondent for Liberation, and her Iraqi interpreter, Hussein Hanun al-Saadi, vanished after leaving her Baghdad hotel on January 5.

Last week, her as yet unidentified abductors released a video that showed her, looking gaunt and disheveled, begging for help.

Liberation said July would also visit al-Saadi's family during his three-day visit to Baghdad.
