AUCH, France, May 1 (AFP) - Two restaurants in the south-western French town of Auch on Sunday put together what they said was the world's longest chain of 400 pizzas, measuring 160 meters (528 feet) in length.

Two pizza chefs each worked for 12 hours to prepare the tomato, ham, goat cheese and pepper pizzas, each one with a diameter of 33 centimetres.

The mammoth pizza chain ringed a small square in Auch's old town, and local attorney Michel Blaise was to verify the feat before sending it to the Guinness Book of World Records for official recognition.

Once Blaise has verified the record, residents of Auch - better known for its foie gras - will be invited to dine on the pizzas for free.
