Kremlin says 'working' on Putin's climate summit visit
The Kremlin said on Monday that President Vladimir Putin may take part in a climate summit in Paris but declined to confirm host France's assertion that his attendance was guaranteed.
"We are working on such a visit," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said at the weekend that Putin would attend the November 30 opening of a UN summit in Paris tasked with producing a climate rescue pact.
Russia, a major oil producer, is seen as a deal-maker or breaker in the years-long attempt to negotiate the world's first truly universal pact to rein in global warming by curbing climate-altering greenhouse gas emissions.
