King of Jordan to meet Chirac in Paris

AMMAN, Feb 22 (AFP) - Jordan's King Abdullah II left for Spain on Tuesday at the start of a European tour that will take in France, Britain and Germany, the official Petra news agency reported.

AMMAN, Feb 22 (AFP) - Jordan's King Abdullah II left for Spain on Tuesday at the start of a European tour that will take in France, Britain and Germany, the official Petra news agency reported.

The king talks with European leaders will focus on "the latest political developments in the Middle East, particularly... in Palestine and Iraq, and efforts being made to push forward the peace process in the region," it said.

Following talks in Spain with King Juan Carlos and Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, the Jordanian king will head to Paris to meet French President Jacques Chirac.

He will also hold talks in London with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and in Germany with Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, the agency added.

The Jordanian monarch is being accompanied by Prime Minister Faisal al-Fayez and Foreign Minister Hani Mulki.
