Kidnaps: Air France steps up security in five African states
Air France said Wednesday it had stepped up security for its air staff and workers on the ground in five West African countries after French nationals were kidnapped in Niger and Nigeria.
"Specific measures for flying personnel and ground crew stationed in these sensitive countries have been reinforced following recent events," an airline spokeswoman told AFP.
The affected countries are Niger, where Al-Qaeda kidnapped five French expats on September 16, Nigeria, where three French sailors were kidnapped on Wednesday, as well as Mauritania, Mali and Chad, she said.
