Jobless rate falls for seventh month straight

PARIS, Nov 30 (AFP) - French unemployment fell by 0.9 percent in October for the seventh month in a row, to stand at 9.7 percent, figures released Wednesday by the labor ministry showed.

PARIS, Nov 30 (AFP) - French unemployment fell by 0.9 percent in October for the seventh month in a row, to stand at 9.7 percent, figures released Wednesday by the labor ministry showed.

Since April, the number of unemployed people in France has decreased by 129,700.

Unemployment among men decreased by 1.3 percent in October on a monthly basis, and among women by 0.5 percent.

Among jobseekers aged 50 or over, it edged lower by 0.3 percent and by 0.8 percent among those who have sought work for more than a year.

Those aged 25 or under have the highest rate of unemployment at 22.9 percent, compared with 8.8 percent for those aged 25-49 and seven percent for those aged 50 and above.
