Jewish graves desecrated in northeastern France: police
Almost 50 graves were desecrated at a Jewish cemetery in northeastern France by unknown vandals, police said on Sunday.
A total of 49 headstones out of 126 at the cemetery in the town of Bar-le-Duc in the Meuse region were knocked over or damaged, Yves Badorc of the local police force told AFP.
Police were alerted on Friday by a walker who noticed that the gate to the cemetery was open, when it normally remained shut, a local newspaper reported.
The damage was recent and an investigation was underway to uncover the possible perpetrators, Badorc said.
The desecration follows a number of similar attacks at Jewish and Muslim cemeteries near the northeastern French city of Strasbourg in the past 12 months, but there is no indication the incidents are connected.
