US jet leasing firm CIT Aerospace has agreed a plan to buy 50 Airbus A320neo new generation medium-haul jets, both firms said at the Paris International Air Show on Tuesday.

A joint statement described the deal as a "memorandum of understanding" signed at the event between Jeffrey Knittel, president of transportation finance for CIT and John Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer.

The A320 is one of the world's most popular medium-haul passenger jets, and the Neo -- or "New Engine Option" version -- has modern energy efficient motors that have proved a hit at the Le Bourget show.

This order brought the total number of aircraft ordered by CIT from Airbus to 241 aircraft, of which 141 have been delivered so far, the firms said.
