PARIS, June 24 (AFP) - French actress Isabelle Adjani has announced that she has broken up with her boyfriend of two years, musician Jean-Michel Jarre, bitterly revealing to the magazine Paris-Match that he had cheated on her.

"I'm leaving him," she told the publication, which came out Thursday. "I believed in him and I was wrong."

Adjani, 48, the award-winning star of several big French films including "Queen Margot" and "Camille Claudel", previously had a relationship with British actor Daniel Day-Lewis, with whom she has a nine-year-old daughter.

She told Paris-Match that Jarre, 55, had originally told her that she was the woman of his dreams, but she had discovered "incontrovertible proof" that he was being unfaithful with another, unnamed actress.

"Of course he denied it, until he finally admitted it," she said.

She also hinted that Jarre's behaviour was the reason that his previous girlfriend, British actress Charlotte Rampling, had been unhappy for so long.

Adjani told the magazine that she intended to put the whole break-up behind her by working hard, posing for photos, and attending film festivals.
