DUBLIN (AFP) - Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern is to hold talks on a range of EU and international issues with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris on Friday, his office said.

"I am looking forward to meeting with President Sarkozy in Paris today as this is the first opportunity that we have had to meet bilaterally since his election last May," Ahern said in a statement before leaving Dublin.

"Our discussions will centre on EU issues, most notably the related issues of agriculture, the EU budget review and the Doha round of the WTO negotiations."

Discussions between the two leaders will also cover the EU reform treaty, the future of Europe and international issues such as Kosovo, the Middle East and Darfur.

Following the talks, Ahern was due to attend the Ireland-France rugby match together with Sarkozy.

On Saturday, Ahern will to attend an open day at the Irish embassy.

He will also visit the College des Irlandais, home to the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris, for the re-opening of the refurbished Old Library.
