LONDON, Oct 20 (AFP) - Iraq is a "great black hole" that is attracting radical fundamentalists from across Europe who later return to the continent to continue their holy war, France's top anti-terrorist judge Jean-Louis Bruguiere said Thursday.

As a result, Bruguiere told BBC radio that the threat of terrorism in Europe in the wake of the London bombings on July 7 remained very high.

"Iraq is a great black hole which is sucking up all the (radical) elements located in Europe and push them to leave Europe and to go to Iraq," he said.

"Some of them come back with the intention and with the need to carry out jihad (holy war) because this is a global concession, not only in Iraq but also in their home countries, in the UK, in France, as well as Spain and other countries in Europe," he warned.
