PARIS, July 12, 2006 (AFP) - A demonstration in Paris planned by the Iranian opposition movement the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) to coincide with talks on Tehran's nuclear programme has been banned because of a threat to public order, police said Wednesday.

The demonstration was to have taken place at midday on the Invalides esplanade, not far from the Quai d'Orsay foreign ministry where foreign ministers from France, Britain, Germany, the United States, Russia and China were to meet during the afternoon.

The NCRI announced earlier that it was calling off the demonstration, but a spokesman said he had no information about a ban.
