France's embattled labour minister, Eric Woerth, firmly denied Tuesday allegations that he had received illegal campaign donations on behalf of President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Woerth, who is also treasurer of Sarkozy's UMP party, has been accused of receiving 150,000 euros (188,000 dollars) in cash from L'Oreal heiress Liliane Bettencourt during the French leader's victorious 2007 presidential bid.

"On the political level, I never touched a single euro that wasn't legal," Woerth insisted in an interview with the I-Tele news network, declaring himself "totally outraged" by the latest allegations.
