PARIS, Nov 8 (AFP) - The French foreign ministry said Monday that two French citizens are missing in Ivory Coast after a weekend of violence.

"We know of no member of the French community in Ivory Coast having been killed over the weekend. However we are still without news of two of our compatriots.

We are actively searching for them," a spokesman said, without identifying the two missing people.

Anti-French riots swept through Abidjan and other cities over the weekend after France destroyed the Ivorian air force in retaliation for the killing of nine French peacekeepers.

President Laurent Gbagbo issued an appeal for calm Monday.
