Hariri to meet Sarkozy after Lebanon govt collapse
Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Wednesday wrapped up a US visit and headed to Paris to meet President Nicolas Sarkozy, hours after Hezbollah forced the collapse of his unity government.
"After the meeting (with US President Barack Obama), Prime Minister Hariri did not make any statements and left Washington for Paris, where he will meet with French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysee," a statement from Hariri's office said.
Hariri had been visiting the White House as his unity government collapsed after the powerful Hezbollah and its allies resigned from the cabinet over a UN probe into the 2005 assassination of his father, former premier Rafiq Hariri.
The UN-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon is reportedly poised to indict senior Hezbollah members in connection with Rafiq Hariri's 2005 assassination, a scenario the militant party vehemently rejects.
