Guinea president 'happy' Strauss-Kahn is freed
Guinean President Alpha Conde said Friday he was "happy" for Dominique Strauss-Kahn after his release on bail for attempted rape but "sad" for his accuser, a woman from Guinea.
"We are both members of Socialist International. I am happy for him and I hope that his sufferings are not going to affect him," Conde told reporters at the African Union summit in Equatorial Guinea.
Conde said however he was "sad" for the 32-year-old woman who accused the former International Monetary Fund chief of attempted rape on May 14 in New York as holes reportedly emerged in her case.
"Guinea fights for its children, we look out for ways in which we can help them," Conde said.
Strauss-Kahn was freed from house arrest Friday after prosecutors raised serious credibility issues with the maid accusing the ex-IMF chief of sexual assault, though he still faces charges.
