CHAMBERY, Feb 14 (AFP) - A seven-year-old girl died Saturday after getting caught on a moving walkway at a ski area in the French Alps, the mountain rescue service said.

For an unknown reason at end of the walkway the girl remained on the belt, and despite the safety system, the walkway to transport skiers to a lift at the Val-Cenis ski area continued to move and crushed the girl.

Rescuers were unable to resuscitate her.

The moving walkway was put into operation only last December.
