Galeries Lafayette to open store in China in 2013
French department store Galeries Lafayette said Wednesday it planned to open its first outlet in China in 2013 and could open 14 more if a joint venture with Hong Kong-based fashion retailer IT worked out.
The store in Beijing may be followed by another in the capital and several more in other Chinese cities if the group can find the right top class locations, Galeries Lafayette executive Paul Delaoutre said in a statement.
The 18,000-square-metre (21,500-square-yard) Beijing store will be the second biggest of the group's shops after its flagship outlet on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris.
Galeries Lafayette, which last year saw turnover of 2.5 billion euros (3.4 billion dollars), has 61 stores in France, and is also present in Germany and Dubai.
