French wine exports up in value, down by volume

PARIS, Feb 25 (AFP) - Exports of French wine and spirits rose 1.7 percent in 2003 to EUR 7.81 billion (USD 9.8 billion), the country's federation of wine and spirits exporters reported Wednesday.

PARIS, Feb 25 (AFP) - Exports of French wine and spirits rose 1.7 percent in 2003 to EUR 7.81 billion (USD 9.8 billion), the country's federation of wine and spirits exporters reported Wednesday.

Wine sales abroad were up 2.3 percent to EUR 5.76 billion but wine exports by volume were down 2.4 percent from 2002.Exports of spirits increased 0.3 percent in value to EUR 2.03 billion and 24.6 percent by volume.

The United States and Britain remained the top importers of French wine and spirits, accounting for a respective 21.8 and 18.3 percent of the total.

But sales to the United States were down O.3 percent compared with 2002.
