French unemployment falls for third straight month
The number of French jobseekers fell for the third straight month in March, down 0.8 percent to 2.68 million, the labour ministry said Wednesday.
However the number rises to slightly over four million people if those who had found some part-time work but were still looking for a permanent job are included, up 0.3 percent over the month and 3.8 percent on an annual basis, according to the official figures.
Labour Minister Xavier Bertrand hailed the new figures as "very good news," adding that France had not enjoyed three consecutive falls in the unemployment numbers since the economic crisis began in early 2008.
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development recently said that moderate economic recovery is underway in France, with some 2.0 percent growth expected this year.
