PARIS, March 31, 2006 (AFP) - French university and high school students were urged by their unions to attend evening rallies in the main squares of towns and cities Friday as President Jacques Chirac addresses the nation on a disputed youth jobs contract.

PARIS, March 31, 2006 (AFP) - French university and high school students were urged by their unions to attend evening rallies in the main squares of towns and cities Friday as President Jacques Chirac addresses the nation on a disputed youth jobs contract.

"Once again as the government looks down on French youth from above ... French youth will be in the street," read a statement from the FIDL union of high school students.

Chirac was to appear on national television at 8pmto reveal whether he will sign the contested First Employment Contract into law.
