French soldier shot dead in Afghan accident: military
A French soldier accidentally shot and fatally wounded a colleague in Afghanistan on Monday, the 64th to die in the war-torn country since 2001, the defence ministry said in Paris.
The soldier was rushed to a military hospital in Kabul but doctors there were unable to save him, it said in a statement.
Four thousand French troops are stationed in Afghanistan.
France announced last month it would start to withdraw its forces from Afghanistan on a timetable similar to that announced for US troops.
US President Barack Obama has ordered all 33,000 US surge troops home from Afghanistan by next summer and declared the beginning of the end of the war, saying the withdrawal would begin this July.
