French road deaths continue to drop

PARIS, July 13, 2007 (AFP) - Traffic deaths in France dropped 11.5 percent in 2006 compared with the previous year to 4,709, Environment Minister Jean-Louis Borloo said in a statement published Friday.

PARIS, July 13, 2007 (AFP) - Traffic deaths in France dropped 11.5 percent in 2006 compared with the previous year to 4,709, Environment Minister Jean-Louis Borloo said in a statement published Friday.

The number of road deaths has fallen continuously for the last five years, according to official figures.  

In 2005, 4,975 deaths were recorded.

Borloo said that "the battle for safety on the roads will continue to be a priority for the president and the entire government."
