French revert airport control to Ivory Coast
French forces in Ivory Coast on Monday handed back control of the Abidjan international airport to the West African country's authorities, a spokesman said.
The French and the United Nations forces had taken control of the Felix Houphouet-Boigny airport since March 31 to evacuate foreigners during clashes between new President Alassane Ouattara and strongman Laurent Gbagbo forces.
"We handed back the control tower to the Ivorian authorities effective from 0930 am," the French forces spokesman Frederic Daguillon told AFP.
The UN and the French troops however maintain security at the airport.
