A letter containing death threats and a bullet was sent to several politicians including former prime minister Alain Juppe, says an official.

PARIS – French anti-terrorism police have opened an investigation after a letter containing death threats and a bullet was sent to several politicians, an official said Tuesday.

Former prime minister Alain Juppe went to the police after receiving the threatening letter and the nine-millimetre bullet on Monday, said a spokesman for Juppe, who is mayor of the city of Bordeaux.

The author of the 20-line letter also lashed out at President Nicolas Sarkozy, Justice Minister Rachida Dati and Interior Minister Michele Alliot-Marie, according to the Sud Ouest newspaper.
