French police open probe into Senegal ex-president's son
French police have opened a preliminary investigation into a corruption complaint against the son of former Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade, officials said on Tuesday.
Senegalese authorities said last week the country had filed the complaint against Karim Wade in Paris as part of an embezzlement probe, suspecting him of having invested illegally obtained funds in France.
A judicial source said Paris prosecutors had assigned the investigation to a major financial crimes division.
Karim Wade, a 44-year-old former minister, has already been questioned by police four times in Dakar over possible corruption while his father was in power.
Abdoulaye Wade, who was in office for 12 years, stood down after losing in presidential elections in March to Macky Sall and his party has accused the new regime of politically motivated legal attacks on former officials.
