French police break up prostitution ring
A gang running a prostitution of 50 women from Romania and Bulgaria has been arrested.
PARIS – French police have arrested a dozen suspects accused of running a prostitution ring of some 50 young women from Romania and Bulgaria, the interior minister said Wednesday.
The gang, arrested on Tuesday, resorted to threats and violence against the women who were forced into prostitution in the northern cities of Rouen and Caen, minister Michele Alliot-Marie said in a statement.
She described the arrests as a "new blow to human-trafficking" and said it was the result of a lengthy investigation.
A new task force was created this month to help the victims of prostitution, many of whom are lured to France from eastern Europe under false pretences.
