French opposition leader declares election candidacy
The leader of France's opposition Socialists, Martine Aubry, on Tuesday formally announced her bid to challenge President Nicolas Sarkozy in next year's presidential election.
"I have decided to present my candidacy for the presidential election," she told supporters in the northern town of Lille, where she is mayor.
"I am resolved to fight with all my strength for France... to restore our country and to unite it."
