French consumer inflation rose 0.2 percent in October from September, when it fell 0.1 percent, the INSEE statistics institute said Thursday.

Compared with a year earlier, prices were up 2.3 percent in October, triggering an automatic increase of 2.1 percent in the minimum French wage from December, officials said.

INSEE said the October increase was largely due to few sales promotions in food and clothing.
